As responsible stewards of the land, we spend a lot of time thinking about how the sun hits our farm. Too much unshaded pasture means animals suffer. Too many weeks of cloudy cool weather means crops progress could be pushed back and hay might not get dry. With about 40 kW of solar capacity installed, we offset 100% of our electrical use, plus some, pumping clean energy back onto the grid. This is big considering we have large, energy hungry freezers for our product plus two homes and electric fences for rotational grazing plots. Though this is not one of our edible products, it is a natural continuation of our farming philosophy. Just like trying to conserve water, we do our best to conserve solar energy through our pastures and through our solar electricity. Our food is clean, our animals are happy, and our farm runs on the sun.
